"Yankee Lady" B-17 WWII Bomber "Ride of a Lifetime" Contest
The winner of the "Yankee Lady" Contest is George Hartman Jr.
He is 91 years old and is a life long resident of Muskegon. He was a tail-gunner in the B-17 "Ain't Misbehavin" with the 390th bomb group stationed in England during WWII. He was shot down and captured on his 23rd mission over Germany on 30 November 1944. In February of 1945 he and his fellow prisoners of Stalag Luft IV were forced to marched into Germany to avoid the advancing Russian army, this march would last until he was he was liberated by the the Canadian 2nd army on 2 May 1945.
